Care Guide

Caring for things made to last.

At Cult of 9, we work with mostly natural fibres, small-batch textiles, and heritage-crafted materials that are meant to live with you for years — softening, deepening, and becoming more personal with time. With the right care, your piece will age beautifully, the way good materials are meant to.

Below, you’ll find detailed care guidance for every fabric we use.

Think of this page as part instruction, part ritual.

A reminder that slow-made clothing deserves thoughtful care.

Amber Silk Care

Amber Silk is one of the oldest and rarest silk-dyeing traditions in China. Every piece is unique and the fabric cannot be mass-produced. Once a batch is gone, it cannot be replicated exactly, which is why caring for it matters.

1

Wash

Once wet, silk becomes more delicate. Hand wash cold with a pH-neutral, gentle detergent. Submerge and swirl lightly; never scrub or twist as this could cause the fibres to slip and damage it. Because natural dyes do not always bond as rigidly as synthetic ones, a slight release of dye (especially on first washes) can occur. The colours may shift slightly with wear, washing or sun exposure. This is a feature, not a flaw — a reminder that your garment is alive, not mass-produced.
2

Dry

Lay flat or hang to dry in shade. Avoid direct sunlight, which can subtly shift the colour created by natural tannins.
3

Press

Steam on low from a distance. If ironing, use the silk setting with a pressing cloth.
4

Store

Hang on padded hangers or fold lightly. Keep in a breathable garment bag to preserve the natural sheen.

Wool Care

Our 100% wool peices are sourced intentionally; you won't need to replace it for years to come. Wool is naturally breathable, naturally insulating, and made to last when treated with care.

1

Clean

Spot clean with cold water and blot gently. Air out to release odours. Dry clean when needed. For wrinkles: light steaming works wonders
2

Dry

If the coat gets wet, let it air dry naturally in a cool room. Keep away from radiators and direct heat.
3

Store

Empty pockets after each wear to maintain the coat’s shape. Hang on a wide, structured hanger to support the shoulders. Allow space between garments so the fibres can relax.
4

Long-Term Storage

Dry clean before storing to remove oils that attract moths. Keep in a breathable garment bag, never plastic.

Silk-Wool Blend Care

Silk–wool blends are rare to source in small batches. They offer the structure of wool with the luminous softness of silk (and our blend includes some reclaimed synthetics for longevity and structure). Because these fabrics are often deadstock, caring for them ensures their limited beauty stays with you.

1

Clean

After wearing, air the jacket on a padded hanger in a cool, ventilated space. This helps prevent odours, moisture build-up, and lets the fibres relax. Dry clean when needed.
2

Dry

If exposed to light rain or dampness — gently blot the surface with a clean, dry cloth. Let air dry completely on a padded hanger; avoid heat or sunlight. Never tumble-dry or leave damp folded — moisture and weight can distort both wool and silk fibres.
3

Press

Steam on low from a distance. If ironing, use the silk setting with a pressing cloth.
4

Store

Hang on padded hangers or fold lightly. Keep in a breathable garment bag to preserve the natural sheen. Hang in a cool, dry place with gentle airflow — avoid basements or damp closets. Give the piece room so fibres can rest and breathe.

Mohair Blend Care

Mohair is a luxury fibre — airy, light, and incredibly warm. Blended with wool and recycled nylon, it becomes a cosy, stretchy and long-lasting knit with a soft halo. With proper care, mohair becomes softer over time without losing its shape.

1

Clean

Hand wash cold only. Use wool-safe detergent. Avoid wringing; press water out gently.
2

Dry

Lay flat on a towel to keep its shape. Never hang — mohair fibres can stretch under their own weight.
3

Pilling

Pilling is natural with mohair; remove gently with a comb.
4

Store

Fold and store with cedar to protect from moths.
